black heat tiles once glowed orange
as they looked outside the window
at Earth hurtling towards them.
they cinched down their safety belts
stomachs jittery, excited, this baby
was their personal dream machine
now towed along city streets
blocked by "shuttle crossing" signs
and people taking pictures.
how we wish they were flying again.
