if you lose yourself

if you lose yourself,
look up towards the sky, between the trees
you will find yourself again
the breeze against your skin will awaken you.
in preparation for the new year, the old will gently
drift down onto the newly fallen snow
to be taken up by the earth.
if you lose yourself, look in a new place
with less prejudice and with an open
heart, look within nature on a cold day
at the very end of the year
holding hands with someone
you love.
