Watching Clouds

Sunday they were flat like the scales
on a snake's long undulating body, sliding
across each other across the sky, at times
opening to show the underbelly of the sky,
then closing again and moving slowly
across and through leaves and branches,
reflecting in still waters and interrupting
waterlillies from their showy displays
of flamboyant colors and textures.
