A Night at the Symphony
feeling sophisticated
hovering above the stage in an opera box,
binoculars occasionally perched above the nose
a glimpse of the conductor's red suspenders
flashes between the pianist's hands as
he raises them in triumph after each
impossibly difficult phrase.
the flutist lifts her instrument to her lips,
the bassoonist licks her lips in preparation
for the reed, the cymbals are in position
for the crescendo, the finale.
we will all go home in awe
and happy.
