Speaking Up

It's 10 p.m. and City Council Chambers are packed.

It looks like democracy,

but in the back hallways, I know there are

jangling coins

and  $100 bills.

I know there are paid consultants, 

realtors, developers.

We are the small fry who show up late at night.
