The Disappearing Candy
It’s late and it’s Friday.
Whatever self control may have
existed has long been dissipated
over the course of the week.
It’s really true that we only do get
a certain amount of self-restraint,
and that once it’s gone, it’s gone
and who knows what might happen.
That bottle of wine might just
get drained while absently mindedly
watching another segment of “24”,
the dishes probably won’t get done.
In the morning, I’ll see the empty box
of Reese’s pieces peanut butter candies.

It won’t be my fault.
