he's tall now and he leans down to embrace me,
I stand on my tip toes.
it's never easier to say good-bye even
as i applaud him walking away back
to the life he's built so far away.
he'll fly away into the darkness,
call an Uber to take him home only
to wake up early and go to his job,
as I go to mine after I wake up in the
dark, grab the leash and the dog and
jog into the cold darkness.
it is the same darkness
one thousand miles away.
