how many tears
should be shed
how many for each body lying dead
on the roadway
in the bar, inside a car,
outside a convenience store
how many bullets in this country
scream across space to find a warm body
soon to be cold
how many bullet holes in vests,
truck windows,
the glint of open carry weapons
blinds our children,
destroys our humanity.
