Strolling at Night
walking through
a small circle of light cast by a street lamp,
raccoons slinking out of storm drains
for their nightly escapades,
a conversation with a shop owner
closing up for the night,
the clerk waiting by the door,
key in hand.
a young man playing
guitar as he walks,
pausing when he realizes
there is someone listening
in the shadows.
Night softens
the sharp edges of
